CARA MERAWAT PUSAKA

Syarat mutlak agar bilah keris bisa diwarangi dengan baik, adalah bilah harus diputih dengan baik terlebih dulu, setelah terlebih dulu dibersihkan dari berbagai noda, kotoran atau karatnya termasuk warangan yang terdahulu / lama / bekas. Cara ini disebut “mutih”. Salah satu cara tradisional mutih adalah :

Rendam bilah keris dengan air kelapa tua (asam lemah) selama beberapa hari, bergantung kadar kotoran dan karatnya. (air bisa ditaburi dengan bunga setaman) Gosok bilah dengan jeruk nipis sehingga menjadi putih keperakan Buah lerak dibuang isinya dan diberi sedikit air dalam mangkok agar berbusa. Dengan sikat halus, gosok keris yang telah dimandikan tadi dengan air lerak. Saat menggosok keris dengan sikat jangan dibolak-balik. Sebaiknya mulai dari pesi sampai ganja terus ke awak-awak hingga pucuk.

Lakukan dengan pelan dan mantap hingga benar-benar bersih. 

Lebih hati-hati lagi jika membersihkan keris kinatah atau keris yang kembang kacangnya sudah sangat tipis. Lakukan pada bilah keris baliknya. Setelah benar-benar bersih, keringkan dengan menggunakan kain bersih dengan cara memijit-mijitkan kain ke seluruh bagian. Keris yang telah kering disiram dengan air bersih dan keringkan kembali – seperti sebelumnya.

Beberapa cara yang lain untuk mutih :

1. Di rendam dalam air jeruk nipis. Akan lebih baik dai perasan air jeruk nipis yang sebelumnya buah jeruk tersebut dikupas. Kulit jeruk bisa menyebabkan bilah keris menjadi kemerahan. Perlu dilihat waktu perendaman karena air jeruk ini bisa memakan bilah besi jika terlalu lama direndam. Jadi sering-sering di cek. Biasanya membutuhkan waktu sektar 6 jam – 1 hari tergantung kualitas warangan yang lama.

2. Jika ingin tidak terlalu makan besi, bisa menggunakan air kelapa tua. Ini bisa membutuhkan waktu antara 2-5 hari tergantung warangan yang melekat pada bilah. Jika menggunakan cara ini, maka tiap hari kita perlu membersihkan keris dengan sabun colek. Setelah kering dan sabun bersih, maka dimasukkan lagi ke air kelapa. Tetapi jangan mengganti air kelapa tersebut. Dibiarkan saja menggunakan yang awal. Air kelapa juga bisa mengangkat karat dari bilah keris.

3. Jika ingin instant, bisa menggunakan air campur dengan serbuk sitrun. Tetapi ini sangat tidak dianjurkan karena bisa membuat bilah keris berpori atau berbintik. Jadi serat besi akan hilang.

4. Cara paling ekstrim dan sangat tidak dianjurkan adalah dengan menggunakan cairan HCL atau Asam Nitrat. Ini sangat merusak keris walau keris bisa putih segera dalam waktu hanya sekitar 5 menitan. Setelah itu keris dioles dengan jeruk nipis yang sudah di kupas dan dibelah menjadi 2 bagian. Bisa ditambahkan dengan abu gosok, dimana belahan jeruk dimasukkan ke abu gosok dan dioleskan ke keris. Cuci dengan air bersih. Barulah kemudian keris bisa menjadi putih sehingga siap diwarangi. 

Memutih bilah, bisa dilakukan siapa saja. Tidak perlu ahli. Setelah bilah bebas karat usai direndam air kelapa, dan disikat sabun colek jeruk nipis, ya tinggal disikat terus, pelan-pelan. Sesabar-sabarnya, sabun-jeruksabun-jeruk sampai nyaris “putih” kemilau, seperti seolah bilah dicat warna metalik.

Jangan memutihkan keris dengan cara di ampelas (sandpaper) atau apalagi di kikir (file).

Di dalam buku tersebut menceritakan, bilangan lok keris membawa perlambangan tersendiri mengikut pakar kebudayaan keris Indonesia, Bambang Harsrinuksmo yang terdiri daripada Keris Lurus, Keris Lok Tiga, Keris Lok Lima, Keris Lok Tujuh, Keris Lok Sembilan, Keris Lok 11 dan Keris Lok 13.

Sebagai contoh, Keris Lurus melambangkan keteguhan hati dan kekuatan iman, perlambangan tauhid iaitu kepercayaan terhadap kekuatan Tuhan.

Ia turut menyingkap nama-nama keris Melayu berdasarkan kepada lok yang terdapat seperti Keris Lurus (keris berpukal atau keris sepukal), Keris Berlok (lok tiga hingga 19), Keris Sempena (tiga, lima dan tujuh), Keris Tambang Sari (13), Keris Cerita (sembilan, 11, 13 hingga 15) dan Keris Rantai (17 ke atas).

Menurut buku itu lagi, keris lok lima dipakai oleh seseorang berjawatan panglima, keris lok tujuh digunakan pembesar kanan di istana manakala raja dan kerabat menyarung keris lok sembilan.

Pantang larang keris turut diceritakan di dalam buku tersebut seperti menghunus keris separuh yang ternyata dilarang sama sekali. Keris harus dihunus sepenuhnya atau tidak dihunus langsung.

Simboliknya, pantang melakukan kerja separuh hati atau separuh jalan dan setelah dihunus, keris mesti dimasukkan semula ke dalam sarungnya sebagai simbol ia kembali ke tempat asalnya.

ALOR SETAR 25 Feb. - Sultan Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah melancarkan buku berjudul Semangat Keris Melayu di Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Negeri Kedah di sini.
Buku yang diterbitkan oleh Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI) dengan kerjasama Persatuan Kerabat Diraja Kedah itu menyingkap rahsia di sebalik keris yang merupakan warisan bangsa Melayu.
Hasil karya Emil Bahari itu cukup istimewa kerana mengetengahkan peranan dan kepentingan keris dalam masyarakat Melayu dari dahulu sehingga kini.
Presiden DMDI, Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali Rustam berkata, penerbitan buku seumpama itu dapat memupuk minat anak Melayu menghargai dan menyedari tentang kehebatan keris yang sentiasa hidup dalam setiap insan bernama Melayu.
''Keistimewaan keris bukan sekadar senjata ampuh untuk bertikam, malah makna yang terdapat pada keris itu sendiri lebih tinggi bagi orang Melayu untuk menilai siapa dirinya, budaya dan asal usulnya," katanya.
Beliau yang juga Ketua Menteri Melaka berkata demikian ketika berucap pada majlis pelancaran buku itu semalam.
Mohd. Ali berkata, dalam dunia serba mencabar orang Melayu perlu terus menilai aspek budaya dan warisan serta mengenang semangat kepahlawanan Melayu agar kekuatan orang Melayu terus kekal menongkah arus zaman.

Najib Tun Razak menganugerahkan darjah tertinggi persilatan kepada Mahaguru Omardin pada sambutan Ulangtahun Ke-50 Persatuan Seni Silat Lincah Malaysia di PWTC, semalam. Turut kelihatan Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

KUALA LUMPUR 6 Julai - Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak berkata, perjuangan pesilat-pesilat bukan hanya ketika memakai baju persilatan, sebaliknya ia perlu dilakukan pada setiap masa terutama dalam usaha mentransformasikan negara.
Perdana Menteri berkata, seni silat merupakan wahana dan wadah perjuangan yang amat baik dan berkesan untuk membentuk jati diri seterusnya melahirkan modal insan negara yang berjaya.
"Saya mahu anak-anak silat terutama anak-anak Pertubuhan Seni Silat Lincah Malaysia (PSSLM) bukan sahaja berani berdepan musuh durjana, tetapi menjadi modal insan negara yang berani membuat perubahan.
"Untuk membentuk jati diri dan modal insan negara yang berjaya, ia perlu melalui latihan amali persilatan yang sebaik-baiknya," katanya ketika berucap merasmikan Majlis Perhimpunan PSSLM sempena 50 tahun pertubuhan itu di Pusat Dagangan Dunia Putra (PWTC) di sini, malam ini.
Turut hadir bekas Perdana Menteri, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi; Presiden Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan (Pesaka), Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali Rustam; Penaung PSSLM, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon; Menteri Pertahanan, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dan Menteri Penerangan, Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan, Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim.
Perdana Menteri yang juga Ulul Amri III PSSLM berkata, kerajaan tidak pernah mendidik anak-anak Malaysia termasuk dalam arena persilatan untuk menderhaka kepada negara.
"Kita (kerajaan) tidak pernah mendidik anak-anak negara ini menderhaka kepada Yang di-Pertuan Agong dan negara, sebaliknya kita didik dengan baik dan penuh dengan nilai-nilai murni,” katanya.

Introduction
The MAGMA Martial Arts Academy (MMAA) is a faculty founded under the auspices of the Asia Pacific Open University (APAC) by the Malaysian Martial Arts Grand Masters’ Association (MAGMA) to provide quality theoretical and practical martial arts applications martial arts practitioners.

The faculty was set up in 2009 by MAGMA, an associative body of martial arts instructors from all over Malaysia. MAGMA has a membership spanning 45 martial styles with a membership totaling 500,000 people.

With the overwhemling support of these organisations, the MMAA/APAC  has launched Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate programs in martial arts, encompassing self-defence, culture, arts, sports, self-development, medicine and many more.

To qualify for the MMAA/APAC educational programs, candidates need to be involved in a martial art school for a certain period of time and attend MMAA/APAC organised courses in addition to preparing a thesis paper on their research into the martial arts. Only the highest ranking and experienced teachers in a school are allowed to apply for the doctorate program. The theses produced by the graduates will be archived to enable and enhance local documentation into the martial arts.

History
Martial arts in Malaysia and around the world have existed for as long as mankind has needed to defend and develop themselves. Unfortunately, as higher learning institutions began creating academic programs into the social and scientific realms of though, the martial arts were left out of the opportunity to be raised to the same level.

There have been several efforts worldwide to academically institutionalise martial arts, but none have been far-reaching or globalising. It took the concerted efforts of the founding members of MAGMA and APAC representatives to coordinate and develop the MMAA/APAC partnership and develop the educational programs offerred to the public.

In 2011, MMAA/APAC produced the world’s pioneer batch of martial arts university graduates from various styles and schools. MMAA/APAC is now firmly poised to change how martial arts is viewed in Malaysia and throughout the world. The university will begin setting up sattelite learning centres in Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei before launching its programs globally.

2. Letter of confirmation of the above requirement from martial arts association or head master
3. Attend 3 core courses

5. Prepare an assignment on your selected martial arts school

Bachelor Degree in Martial Arts (B. Ma)
Requirements

1. Active in martial arts for 5 or more years, or have trained exceeding 120 contact hours
2. Letter of confirmation of the above requirement from martial arts association or head master
3. Attend 3 core courses
4. Attend  2 elective courses
5. Prepare a theses on a concept within your martial arts school

Master Degree in Martial Arts (B. Ma)

I'd like to share with you this article I just found on how to differentiate between a real ruby and a composite ruby. There are many more articles on this if you surf the internet.

Basically, if you inspect a composite ruby closely with a good magnifying glass, you will see trapped air bubbles inside the glass material. And, a composite ruby is easily damaged if in contact with chemicals, household cleaners or even lemon juice, and it is not as durable as a natural ruby. It is of lower price than natural ruby. However, a composite ruby can be made to look more attractive than the natural one.

You can't call me at 60176091917 which is under repair in the next 2 weeks, or at least until I get a replacement alternative handphone while my handphone is being fixed. Meanwhile just sms (text only) at 0142180969.

I have a problem with my handphone which I accidentally lost when I dropped my pouch (my handphone was inside my pouch) at the CP4 Carpark entrance of Sunway Pyramid, when I opened my door after having problems reaching the touch n go machine, the security said the CCTV showed that my pouch was "run over" 3 times by passing cars until the next customer was kind enough to pick it up and return it to the Security. Thank God there are still honest people out there! I had no chance to say thank you to the kind soul because the security had not taken down his contact details. But, I will pray for him and May God reward him for his good Deed. Thank You Sir! And, Thank God my handphone was not crushed to bits, there is a blotch on the screen which will be replaced, that'll cost me RM150 because the warranty doesn't cover that. But, It's ok I am just happy I got back my pouch, my purse, my cash, identity card (I/C)  atm/debit cards, handphone, driver's licence were all in there. PHEW! Syukur Alhamdulillah.

I only realised I'd lost my handphone at LG2 when I couldn't find my pouch as I was getting out of the car. I was very lucky this time. I have to Thank The Sunway Pyramid Security and Management for their efficiency and effectiveness in handling this matter. That was a gruelling 12-3pm horror as I was running around all over the Sunway Pyramid and Maxis, Balai Polis (I had lodged a police report, and after I returned to the Information Counter at Sunway Pyramid, I was told the pouch was returned by a kind customer) and Maybank (to suspend my account) just outside at PJS11. Everyone I met was kind today, even the Police were so customer-oriented and even helped pay RM2 for the cost of the receipt. And, also offered to pay my parking fee. Thank you again :)

What a day! So now, my handphone's out of order and needs fixing which will take about 2 weeks. Crash kills silat masters

It was sad to hear news of this crash (Re: The News Article Below) where a few Veteran Silat Master were killed in Kedah.

This means there are fewer left to teach this form of Martial Arts in this country.

Crash kills silat masters
ALOR SETAR: Five silat masters were killed and four musicians injured after the van that they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a tree at Jalan Titi Haji Idris, about 15km from here.
The group, who were members of the Persatuan Persilatan dan Pergendangan Silat Kedah, was returning home to Pendang after performing silat at a wedding in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, on Sunday, when the accident occurred at about 3.30am yesterday.
Three silat masters died on the spot while two others died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

Mangled wreck: Pendang District Police Public Order and Traffic Chief Insp Abdul Ghani Kamis inspecting the wreckage of the van yesterday.

The five are Jumaat @ Saad Mat Akir, 62, Juhari Darus, 65, Ahmad Ismail, 65, Sudin Deris, 65 and Ishak Awang Kechik @ Hanafiah, 78.
The four injured musicians are Che Ishak Hussin, 54, Arifin Mahazon, 56, and Mohd Idris Senafi, 20 and Ahmad’s son Roshidi, 24, who was driving the van.
According to Mohd Idris, the group left Sungai Buloh on Sunday evening and had stopped in Tapah at about 11.30pm.
“I fell asleep when we resumed the journey and woke up at the hospital bed this morning,” he said.
Association president Haris Fazilah Ismail said 14 people including the five silat masters, exponents and musicians attended the wedding.
“Five of them went by car while the others were in a van,” he said.

Unbearable loss: A relative of Ishak Awang reacting after learning that he was among those killed in the accident yesterday morning.

He said Roshidi lost control of the van after trying to avoid an animal.
Pendang acting OCPD Asst Supt L. Pubadi said police had recorded Roshidi’s statement, adding the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

Oils That Can Be Applied to the Blade of a Keris

Black Musk Oil (Minyak Misik Hitam) is one type of Oil which can be applied onto the blade of a keris that has been cleaned (*Please note: there is a set of procedures that you have to undergo in cleaning a keris before you start oiling the keris. The cleaning process is supposed to clear all the dirt off the keris).

Last January 2011, I bought a small bottle of about 3-5ml at RM25 from Mr Buyong (better known as Abang Buyong by the younger generation) at Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. Mr Buyong sells Kerises and Mystical items at his shop which is located on the first or second left row (I can't remember which row) as you enter the Central Market entrance from the CarPark. Mr Buyong (and his brothers and late father, Al-Fatihah) knew my late brother (the late Abdul Haq, Al-Fatihah) who had bought many kerises and items from his shop within the period from 1988 to 2004. I had asked for a bottle of Sandalwood Oil (Minyak Kayu Cendana) but he had run out of stock and Black Musk Oil (Minyak Misik Hitam) was an alternative.

Just this week I tried using the Black Musk Oil (Minyak Misik Hitam) and I experienced an Overpowering Aromatic Smell that lingered on for about a few hours inside an enclosed room.

From what I've read, the types of oils used for oiling a keris blade to protect and prevent it from rusting, do not damage the patterns (pamor), leave an aromatic scent and a shine, are: Minyak Rase, Sandalwood Oil (Minyak Kayu Cendana), Black Musk Oil (Minyak Misik Hitam), Ylang Ylang (Minyak Kenanga) and Jasmine (Minyak Melati). I must give these a try...How about You?
